Graphic Design Packaging Checklist

Before you send artwork to press, run through this checklist to avoid delays, color surprises, barcode failures, and compliance issues. Influence Packaging can review your files, provide dielines, and coordinate a fast, clean press run.

Print-Ready Files Color Accuracy Barcode Compliance Faster Approvals

Artwork & Layout

  • Use the **official CAD dieline** (latest revision) with glue areas and no-print zones marked.
  • All **bleeds set to 1/8″ (3 mm)** minimum; safe margins respected around cuts/creases.
  • **Live text** kept off folds/creases and at least 1/8″ from cut edges.
  • Vector for logos/icons; **raster images ≥ 300 ppi** at final size.
  • Linked assets **embedded** or packaged; remove unused layers and swatches.

Color Management

  • Choose the print process: **CMYK**, **spot/Pantone**, or a hybrid; specify for each panel.
  • Provide a **color target** (Pantone code or approved proof); note acceptable **ΔE tolerances**.
  • Convert RGB to CMYK intentionally; avoid rich black on small text (use **K-only**).
  • Large solids: add subtle **tints/underprints** if needed to prevent banding/mottle.

Typography & Legibility

  • Minimum font size respected (body ≥ **7–8 pt** for cartons; larger for reversed type).
  • Convert fonts to **outlines** or include font files; check kerning after outline.
  • Avoid hairline rules; keep strokes **≥ 0.25 pt** (or 0.5 pt reversed).

Barcodes & Regulatory

  • **GS1 UPC/EAN** sized per spec; quiet zones clear; do not place over creases or high-gloss glare areas.
  • For Amazon/marketplaces: **FNSKU** & carton **Box ID** labels reserved on flat areas.
  • Medical/device or food: space for **UDI**, warnings, nutrition/IFU, and required symbols.
  • Environmental claims phrased per **FTC Green Guides** (or local rules); add recycling icons appropriately.

Files for Press

  • Deliver **PDF/X-1a or PDF/X-4**, plus native files (AI/INDD) if requested.
  • **Overprint/knockout** settings reviewed (especially on whites and spot colors).
  • Varnish/spot UV/emboss **on separate named layers** with 100% spot swatches.
  • Include a **1:1 scale mockup** or soft proof; request **contract proof** for color-critical jobs.
